Free Spirit Fabric Galore (Aurifil Artisan Challenge)

Updated: May 4, 2021

For the April Artisan Showcase Aurifil teamed up with fabric powerhouse Free Spirit to supply us all with some gorgeous Kaffe Fassett fabric to play with.

I got a selection of red fabric and the colours are so vibrant.

My sewing machine was in the shop for a while so I was late to the party (again). I called for help on Instagram to find a pattern that uses 5 fat quarters and Charles from feltlikesweets suggested his lovely crooked crosses and bent boxes pattern.

It is a really joyful pattern that allows you to go with the flow and not be too methodical about everything. I find that I am having a hard time letting go of control. If I had a therapist that would be something to work on maybe :D

When I was done with the fat quarters and had the mini quilt all done It felt a little too small so I added a border. Tula has a way of sneaking into my quilts and she is a Free Spirit designer too so I guess it still fits the brief.

The Binding is also a Tula stripe. I love a striped binding.

I used Aurifil 50wt for the piecing and I quilted it with 40wt to make the stitching pop.

Anyway. Here is the final quilt. Do you like it?

This quilt was cut, sewn, basted, quilted and bound in two days. I love a quick finished.

The leftovers where just enough for a nice improv pillow case.

Leftovers are free fabric and they are so much fun to try out new quilting designs on.
